Ark Doors, 1967-68

In 1967 Kaish received a commission from Temple Beth Shalom in Wilmington, Delaware, to create a set of ark doors. As this was a Conservative congregation for whom figuration would not be appropriate, Kaish sought an abstract visual language to express the mystical truths she was exploring in the Zohar. The result was The Beth Shalom Ark Doors (1967–68), a breakthrough work in which she integrated the Ten Commandments with the kabbalistic concepts of Ein Sof, Sefiroth and Kav.
